In order to properly care for your skin, it is important to know what type of skin you have. This can assist you in tailoring your skin care to suit your individual needs. With a diverse range of skin types, treating & caring for your skin will be as beautifully unique as you.
People with oily skin often notice a shiny/oily surface and have larger more visible pores. If you have oily skin you will need to use a balancing moisturiser, especially because oily skin is more prone to acne. SkinB5’s Acne Control Moisturiser is a non-oil based balancing moisturiser that is perfect to protect the skin & help it correct the moisture balance. Hormonal causes are very common with oily skin, so it would be important to address those internally as well.
Dietary/Supplements: Pantothenic Acid (aka vitamin B5) can help correct the production of sebum in the skin, and zinc is important for maintaining skin health with anti-inflammatory and balancing properties. Try SkinB5’s Acne Control tablets with nutrients including B5, B3, folic acid and zinc to help correct hormonal imbalances and sebum production. Avoid processed foods, refined grains, sugars and inflammatory fats like trans fats and dairy products, and increase your anti-inflammatory oils including EPA from fish oil. According to research, consuming a low GI-diet and improving the ratio of omega-6 & omega-3 can improve symptoms (Rubin, 2008; Elsa 2009, Khayef, 2012).
Does your skin flake, peel or generally feel dry? Dry skin can often feel taught and is prone to red patches and cracking and keeping the skin hydrated is of upmost importance for this skin type. Externally it is important to use a moisturiser to act as a barrier to stop your skin losing hydration every morning & night after cleansing & toning. If you have dry skin but also suffer acne, you can use the SkinB5’s balancing Acne Control Moisturiser morning and night to deliver the acne-fighting ingredients directly to the skin, and add an extra layer of a treatment oil or deep moisturiser at night, because night-time is the most important time to seal in your hydration. Treatment oils for dry skin can include jojoba, avocado, rosehip, wheatgerm & evening primrose oil. You can also add specific essential oils to your treatment oil that are great for cellular repair and dry skin, including rose, sandalwood or lavender.
Dietary/Supplements: Drinking plenty of water is of upmost importance to those with dry skin. A deficiency in essential fatty acids is a very common cause of dry skin as well. Ensure a diet rich in good oils/fats from sources like fish & avocado, and supplementing with oils such as omega-3’s, evening primrose oil and natural vitamin E may be of benefit (Mohajeri, 2014).
Normal skin is defined as not dry or oily, and essentially has a correct balance of water and lipids. It should feel smooth and have minimally visible pores. To maintain clear skin, ensure you stay hydrated and use a good gentle balancing skin care regime such as SkinB5’s cleanser and moisturiser morning and night. You can use a treatment oil or mask once or twice a week at night to provide extra anti-aging and cellular repair.
Dietary/Supplements: Antioxidants can boost the integrity of your skin whether it is normal, oily, dry or combination type. Increase your antioxidants with supplements including alpha lipoic acid, vitamin C & vitamin E, and with superfoods such as acai berry and pomegranate.
