Men’s fashion is about to go through an explosive change.

The most exciting thing about fashion right now is that our hair trends are going in reverse. Women’s body hair is back in the mainstream, especially underarm hair. And men are about to shave their beards. Now with all the ‘80s retro aesthetic around, you probably see where this is going.

That’s right. Moustaches are back, Broseph.

Not the thin hipster pieces that make you look like you’re in a band, but action hero moustaches that pair well with hard pecs and a sophisticated aftershave. The coming seasons are set to transform the mo from dad to dangerous. A mo isn’t just a fancy shock of hair over the mouth, it’s the absence of hair all around it. This is a great time to talk about what shaving does for your skin. Done right, you can enrich your face with nutrients and smooth out an area that can so easily become an acne battlefield.

What’s so great about shaving?

First of all, men are keen to shave. If you’re young, maybe you’ve thought about shaving your legs. It’s alright. Chances are you saw a classmate doing it for sport, or just for the smooth look. Smooth legs are getting more exposure on reality TV and soccer stars. Shaving body hair highlights the muscle tone you’ve earned exercising. It seems to have become especially common in Spain, as manscaping continues to take over Europe. Leg shaving is great for cycling too -- a smooth leg gets fewer abrasions in an accident. According to a Braun Styling survey, 26% of us aren’t happy with our amount of leg hair. If you want to feel the breeze on your legs, you’re not alone. The next benefit is exfoliation. If you’re thorough, the whole process of shaving will cleanse your skin. There are so many ways to do this, with different experts saying different things. Here are the methods I can guarantee:
  • Just get your barber to do it. They know the process, they shave all day. Ask them about exfoliation and how to care for shaven skin. Tip: use SkinB5 Moisturiser instead of aftershave, or put the aftershave on after the moisturiser. If you want to get wild, put some on your belly for a full body aroma.
  • Use SkinB5 moisturiser instead of an after shave and then shake on the aftershave. And for that matter, place some aftershave on your moisturised belly to create a cloud of good smell
  • Otherwise, use a gentle cleanser on the area first, such as SkinB5 Acne Control Cleansing Mousse. You can use it instead of shaving foam, which can be full of bubbles that prevent an even shave. This is relieving on the skin, where other products might shake up your sensitive skin and cause more irritation or acne
  • Shave in the shower. The steam opens your pores for cleansing and causes the hair to rise, which means a neater cut.
  • Splash some cold water over the shaven area. This cranks up your circulation, protects your pores by closing them again and lowers the chance of inflammations including acne. SkinB5 Acne Control Cleaning Mousse closes the pores and cleans skin too. This all gives you a glow, in a good way.
When you shave, you get rid of dead skin. Even the razor cleans you. Thirdly, there are the benefits for people who make too much or too little stubble. If you’re genetically predisposed to patchy facial hair, or you don’t get enough sleep, regular shaving covers that up. If your stubble is dense, you have a higher chance of those happy accidents that cause your hair to give you acne, such as sweat in pores, pulling longer strands or ingrown hairs. Different hair equals different problems, but shaving with care is always a solution. There’s been one other strong influencer in the latest hair trends: Wellness. Women have been swapping their shaving cream for something gentler on the skin, with many straight up keeping their body hair. The equality movement caused about a quarter of millennial healthy. Something like a daily dose of SkinB5’s global bestseller Acne Control Extra Strength Tablets. The even better news is you get to be a man who can do both. Shaving is one more anti-acne tool in the powerful arsenal that’s all around us these days. Vitamins and minerals are common, fruit and vegetables are cheaper than junk food, and even when we don’t have enough water there’s enough to shave and keep hydrated. Summer is coming. It’s a good time to grow a moustache. Peter Matthews is a freelance writer living in Melbourne.
