Now I know the process of finding the ‘’right’’ sunscreen can be frustrating, especially if you have acne prone skin. It’s that time of the year again, where summer is in full swing and most of us couldn’t be happier, thinking about the sun shining on our faces and laying down all day in the sun. But as tempting, as it is to be outdoors all day there are some things you should consider before you cause some serious damage to your skin. But hopefully, after reading this it might make the process of finding a good sunscreen a little bit easier. So here’s all the info you need to know about protecting your acne prone skin.
How to Choose the Right Sunscreen
If you’re prone to sensitivity or breakouts, choose a sunscreen that says ‘non-comedogenic’. What does that mean? Well, non-comedogenic simply means that the sunscreen is aimed to not clog your pores or cause any irritation and pimples on your skin. But be careful when picking up your sunscreen sometimes there are ingredients such as ‘’lanolin’’ which can actually cause breakouts so it’s better to look for both components that say ‘oil free’’ and ‘’noncomedogenic’. Also, you want to look for a sunscreen that contains zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. These elements serve as ‘’physical sunscreens’’ where they reflect the UV rays when they hit your skin and most importantly they do not irritate your skin or make your skin feel greasy.
You Don’t Have Time To Get Sunscreen!
If you left the sunscreen at home, there's no need to miss out on any outdoor activities. You can prevent getting a sunburn by staying in the shade or putting on a wide hat before heading out into the sun. Remember don't use straw hats, they have small holes that let sunlight through and try wearing long pants and a long-sleeved shirt that protects your body from the sun rays. Tip: darker colors protect skin better than light ones.
The Sun’s Not All Bad!
A bit of sunshine is actually good for our bodies. Sunshine helps us to produce vitamin D, the body’s natural happy hormone, which is necessary for bone health and optimal immune function. Vitamin D makes us feel happier and more energetic and has the ability to enhance absorption of key nutrients such as calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphate, and zinc. The amount of sun you need to get your daily vitamin D dose will vary based on your skin color. Times for different ethnicities vary: people with fair skin only need a few minutes of unprotected time in the sun and people with darker skin will need more exposure, but still, shouldn’t spend long periods of unprotected time in the sun. Just remember to only spend a short amount of time (under 30 minutes) in the sun to increase your body’s production of vitamin D.
Keep supplements in mind!
It’s never too late to start protecting yourself from the sun. Adding natural supplements that contain vitamins and antioxidants can actually help neutralize harmful toxins from your body. Taking SkinB5’s Acne Control Maintenance Caplets help support skin healing and renewal compounds which contain vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C which is often known as a powerful defender against UV ray damage. You can also help reverse skin damage by using SkinB5’s light weight moisturiser. It contains vitamin E which is known for healing the wounds and damaged skin tissue. Lastly, if you do tend to break out in summer due to excessive heat and sweating try out SkinB5’s Acne Control Cleansing Mousse where it contains salicylic acid which is known to treat breakouts!
