Unusual Acne Treatments: Do They Really Work?

Posted by Team @skinB5 on

From banana peels to baking soda, there have been many unusual acne treatments floating around the internet over the years. Acne sufferer tested and celebrity approved, many of these whacky treatments claim to banish acne overnight. The most recent of these crazy cures? Nappy cream. How does that work you might ask? Well, most nappy creams contain Zinc Oxide, which is a naturally occurring mineral that has anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. When applying a layer over your acne, it reduces inflammation in the same way it does to a child’s bottom. Sound like an acne sufferers dream to get rid of pesky pimples, right? You might want to hold off on rushing to the nearest chemist to get yourself a tube of this zit-stopping miracle cure. Although Zinc Oxide has anti-inflammatory properties, it’s important to remember that this only fights off acne superficially. Therefore, it does not actually address underlying skin issues that cause acne in the first place. On top of all this, using Zinc Oxide regularly can actually cause unwanted side effects for your skin. SkinB5 founder, Judy Cheung-Wood, states that “Zinc Oxide can cause allergic reactions like swelling, itching or tingling in patients”. She suggests that “people with sensitive skin or those with allergic tendencies should check with their doctor before using anything with the compound in it”. Cheung-Wood also warns that many acne suffers jumping to this craze may not realise that ingredients like Zinc Oxide can slowly build up in the system until they reach toxic levels. As a result, this can cause further issues for patients later on. Instead of trying to fight acne purely from the surface using potentially toxic ingredients, Cheung-Wood recommends using a product such as SkinB5 to treat acne from the inside out. Utilising Vitamin B5 - a core natural ingredient that regulates the overproduction of skin oils - inside oral supplements, the SkinB5 regime aims to clear the skin from within. All of our SkinB5 products are free of nasty chemicals including benzoyl peroxide, parabens, SLS, SLES, synthetic fragrances, petrochemicals, silicones, DEA, animal products and nanoparticles. Disappointed that your new holy grail spot treatment might not actually be as terrific as it first sounded? Not to worry - we here at SkinB5 have you covered! For a spot treatment that reduces redness fast and actually deeply purifies the skin, try our SkinB5 Skin Purifying Mask.
