A – Z of foods that benefit the skin; ‘H’ is for HERBS

Posted by on

‘H’ is for HERBS Now, although there isn’t an individual herb that is known to stop Acne dead in its tracks, I believe herbs are amazingly helpful when it comes to the relationship between food and acne. As we know, a cleaner diet is better for acne/problem skin, as processed and junk food can increase oil production and send our skin into a meltdown. But what if you’ve been used to eating processed or pre-made food that already has flavourings added and you don’t know where to start with giving your freshly prepared meals that extra pizzazz? That’s where Herbs and Spices will be your new best friends J Herbs can be used in salads, on roasted meats and vegetables, in omelettes, fruit salads…in fact, in just about anything! Rosemary: Add to a pan of vegetables whilst roasting and/or to roast potatoes – yum! Basil: Amazing when added to chopped tomatoes, red onion, and red capsicum for a salsa. Add olive oil, garlic and a little chilli if you like it hot. Coriander: Have you ever tried Coriander in a smoothie? If you haven’t – give it a go. Chop and pop banana, apple, pear, rocket leaves, celery, lemon juice and coriander into a blender for a few minutes and you have the most delicious and energizing smoothie around. Mint: Mint in a fruit salad, gives this good old favourite a refreshing change. Choose your favourite fruits, slice and pop in a bowl, mixed with fresh mint leaves. Just a few simple ideas, that really enhances the flavours of freshly prepared foods. You can’t go wrong really. I like the fact that you don’t even need to cook to use herbs. It takes two seconds to chop a load of fruits and/or veg for a smoothie and throwing herbs in can make it taste better than a professionally made one J ‘Venessa is a down to earth Health Coach & RTT Therapist, specializing in helping clear your stress and problem skin through Holistic Simplicity.
